ITINERARY

DAY 1:      U.S. to SAN JOSE

Welcome to Costa Rica! A private transfer from the San José airport will bring you to our elegant hotel in the center of San José. If you have free time, you might want to check out the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, just a few blocks from the hotel. In the evening we’ll officially kick off our trip with an orientation meeting and a welcome dinner. (Hotel: Hotel Grano de Oro or similar)

DAY 2:         SAN JOSE

This morning we’ll explore the highlights of San José through the eyes of a local, with a private guided walking tour. Later we'll discover Costa Rica's culinary roots, tasting our way through tropical fruits, pastries, traditional dishes, and coffee, on a guided tour of the city's markets and street vendors.

DAY 3:        LA FORTUNA

This morning we leave the frenetic energy of San José behind and head out into Costa Rica’s natural beauty. First we’ll stop at La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a private ecological park with waterfalls, hiking trails, a hummingbird garden and more. After lunch at the gardens, we’ll continue on to La Fortuna, on the outskirts of Arenal Volcano National Park. Views of the Arenal Volcano, standing at more than 5,000 feet, dominate the landscape here. You’ll have free time this afternoon to enjoy the thermal hot springs at our lovely hotel. (Hotel: Nyara Resort, Spa & Gardens or similar)

DAY 4:       LA FORTUNA

This morning a local guide will introduce us to the lava fields and secondary rainforest of Arenal Volcano National Park, with sweeping vistas and an abundance of flora and fauna along the way. After lunch, we’ll head to Mistico Park for a guided walk through the rainforest canopy on their famous “hanging bridges.”

DAY 5:   MONTEVERDE

Today we trade the rainforest for the cloud forest!  In the morning we’ll cross Lake Arenal by boat, with one last view of the Arenal Volcano, then ascend into the mountains to Monteverde. In the afternoon we’ll take a guided walking tour of the beautiful Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve. (Hotel: Monteverde Lodge & Gardens or similar)

DAY 6:     MONTEVERDE

Costa Rica is known for its coffee, so a trip here wouldn’t be complete without seeing the beans at their source! This morning we’ll tour a coffee plantation and learn about the coffee-growing process, from seed to cup. Once we’re all fully caffeinated, you can choose your own adventure for the afternoon: zip-lining through the cloud forest canopy, horseback riding, hiking…or something more restful, like a massage or a visit to a butterfly farm. This evening, we’ll take a nighttime hike through the cloud forest and try to spot some of its nocturnal inhabitants.

DAY 7:          TAMARINDO

Today our comfortable private transportation will take us from the mountains to the coast. After arriving at our beachfront hotel on Tamarindo Beach, you can spend the afternoon at your leisure, on the sand or in the water. Snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding and more await. (Hotel: Hotel Capitan Suizo or similar)

DAY 8:      TAMARINDO

After an action-packed week, it’s time to relax! Choose from an abundance of activities to fill your day, or take it easy by the pool or on the beach. Soak up the sun, the ocean air, and the Costa Rican pura vida. Tonight we’ll have a special farewell dinner.

DAY 9:         LIBERIA TO U.S.

Today we bid farewell to Costa Rica. A private transfer will take you to the Liberia airport for your flight back to the U.S.
